Presumed dead by her convent, Sister Aim (a sky nun who has never touched the ground) was sent into the ancient Cruciblehold City ruins to dispose of her newborn, a child condemned by the Reverend Mother for its blasphemous and unheard-of abilities. But right as she prepares to leave the infant to its demise, it is rescued by two outcast kids from a separatist faction with the power to control life and death itself. Torn between her vows and a sudden, reluctant instinct to protect the child, Sister Aim abandons her Order forever. The four quickly form a found family, bound by choice as much as necessity, and flee into the Great Wastes for a safe place to live as themselves, but survival in the Wastes is brutal. They aren't just being hunted by a rival faction that commands weather and water, intent on dissecting and weaponizing the baby, but are also being tracked by an underground rebel with ties to the child’s existence that no one thought possible.
